Claire Burton introduced our home grown speaker Gill Busby. Gill gave us an excellent talk about the Hereford Food Bank where she is a volunteer. She became involved after seeing a Food Bank in the USA. It was set up in 2013, and was previously the Community Larder. There is only 1 member of staff, all others are volunteers. She explained how clients are referred to the food bank and showed us how much food is provided in an emergency parcel lasting seven days. Approximately 1000 food parcels are supplied a year which is helping 1500 people. Food is donated by businesses, some supermarkets, churches, the public and money donated is used for expenses and also to buy fresh food. She also gave us a few examples of clients that have been helped by the Food Bank. There are other food banks in Herefordshire and all volunteer help is welcomed. We enjoyed her talk very much. Claire Burton gave the vote of thanks.
