Gill Bullock from Wellington WI was introduced by Claire Burton. She gave us a very interesting talk with pictures about taking part in the Ride Across Britain by bicycle, from Lands End to John O Groats (LeJog!). She and her neighbour decided to take part together. She had to train for eight months before the event in September 2015. She rode 966 miles in 9 days, averaging 108 miles a day with the longest day being 128 miles. It was a fully supported ride with 800 participants and most people were raising money for charity. Gill raised money for the library at her childrens’ school in Wellington. We enjoyed her talk very much and Gill Busby gave the vote of thanks. On Sunday 21 January 24 members and partners joined together at the Corners Inn Kingsland for the annual post Christmas lunch. We were looked after very well and had a delicious meal together. Fortunately the unexpected snow fall that morning did not settle.
Staunton on Arrow held an afternoon tea and social afternoon for their first meeting of 2018. Members gathered together to eat tea, chat with their friends and pay their subscriptions for 2018. One past member rejoined and we were pleased to welcome two new members, Ann and Di. Due to missing the December meeting we had a game where we gave out our Secret Santa presents, first passing them right and left according to words in a poem! There followed a group photograph for the February Federation newsletter. An excellent afternoon was had by all.
