We were very pleased to welcome a new member, Sarah Westaby who has just moved into the area from Buckinghamshire; we hope she will be very happy here.
Our business meeting was followed by a talk from Irene Whittall about her working life as a midwife and a community nurse in the local area and Hereford; she recounted some very amusing and some rather sad events. The largest baby she had ever delivered was one of nearly 13 pounds; she was pleased to recount that her claim to fame was that she once gave a bedpan to Michael Foot, MP! Ann Kent Phillips gave the vote of thanks.
We were very pleased to welcome a new member, Sarah Westaby who has just moved into the area from Buckinghamshire; we hope she will be very happy here. CSO Dick Allford visited Staunton on Arrow WI in February to talk about ’30 Years as a Country Copper’. We heard about various incidents which made his job in the country memorable, including encounters with dogs, calving, directing traffic in Kington pre-bypass, also his spell as a Family Liaison Officer. When he retired in 2007 he had to apply all over again to become a Community Support Officer which is his current role. He had some useful information about rural crime prevention and leaflets too. Noelle gave the vote of thanks. |
