We also discussed the 2014 resolution which will be voted on at the AGM in Leeds and voted that we should as a WI support the resolution.
We were all very interested and intrigued to welcome Sarah Parkinson from 'Bunnies Bugs and Beasties' to our meeting on Wednesday 21 May. Sarah gave us a very interesting account of her childhood in Northamptonshire in a Wildlife Park run by her parents and also about her career which included very many jobs involving working with animals in this country and abroad. Latterly since she has had her children she runs her own business taking small animals into schools and care homes for educational purposes. We met Monty Python, Colin the cockroaches (they were all called Colin), which were Madagascar hissing cockroaches, also some very large millipedes and a tarantula who fortunately did not come out of his travelling case. Two very fluffy guinea pigs made up the party. Go to the Gallery to see all the photos of this entertaining evening. We also discussed the 2014 resolution which will be voted on at the AGM in Leeds and voted that we should as a WI support the resolution. Our speaker was Mair Granthier from Hereford Baptist Church who talked to us about the
Night Shift. She gave us a very enthusiastic and moving talk about the work she, her husband Brian and a team of volunteers do welcoming clubbers, the homeless and anyone on a Saturday night in Hereford Commercial Road between 12am and 4 am, with hot drinks, warmth, and safety and listening to problems. We all admired their commitment and felt that we wanted to give our own extra contribution to their work. |
