Sarah Sentinella of Cappellino Millinery gave us a very interesting talk and demonstration on how she makes beautiful hats for occasions, showing us several examples, also described methods of shaping hats on blocks. Hats are made mainly now from Shiminay (product of banana tree) and straw. She learnt her trade at Hereford College and makes her hats in her spare time when she is not working. Members modelled the hats very professionally!
Marches Group Meeting tonight hosted by Kingswood WI; thank you Kingswood for your hospitality. Our speaker was Cameron Addicott who entertained us with his recollections of work as an undercover agent for HM Customs and the Serious Organised Crime Agency, working against drug traffickers, people smugglers and money launderers.
He has written a book based on his experiences, 'The Interceptors' which is currently being filmed for BBC1, starring Trevor Eve. Cameron is shown below with Federation Chairman Kathryn Bandfield. 6 of our members attended and there was a good attendance overall from our 5 WI's in the Group. Our speaker Mrs Pat Skeet from the Macular Society gave us a very interesting and quite disturbing talk on
Macular Degeneration. She gave us some important pointers to look out for re getting the disease; to act quickly she gave us helpline phone numbers and leaflets. Seeing wavy lines instead of straight is one sign. If you notice any of the signs you do have to act as quickly as possible. |
