Ten WI members met up this month at The Oak in Wigmore on Friday 26th July. We had a fabulous lunch, it was a really nice atmosphere! Our speaker this month was Jill Salmon who gave a fascinating talk on the cultures and costumes of China. She had brought with her a variety of costumes from some of the very remote areas of China which we were allowed to handle and even model. Members were very impressed by the intricate work involved in making the fabrics and the costumes. The talk was followed by refreshments and the usual exchange of news and views from Staunton on Arrow.
Seven members attended the Pimms & Puddings evening which was held in the beautiful garden of a Weobley WI member.
The Marches Group Meeting was held at Brampton Bryan on Thursday 27 June. Brampton Bryan WI were this year's hosts and the subject was 'Showcasing Brampton Bryan' and we were taken from the hall over to the historic village church of St Barnabas and learnt of its history and also of the Harley family (Lady Susan Harley gave us the talk). She took us into the Hall grounds which also contains the famous castle which was severely destroyed in the Civil War. The weather was perfect and the tour was followed by an excellent afternoon tea in the Parish Hall. Members from all WIs in the Marches Group attended, together with members from Bucknell WI in the Shropshire Federation. It was a splendid afternoon.
