Our demonstration by Karen Jones of Bromyard on Distressing Furniture and Decoupage came before the business. We had a very fascinating demonstration on painting and decorating an ordinary pine cupboard. She was quick and expertly assisted by her sister Debbie Weaver and was finished in ¾ hour. She also showed us how to finish off by craqueluring or cracking and aging the finished look. We were all impressed and enjoyed it very much.
On Wednesday 3 September Staunton on Arrow WI hosted an event for the Marches Group of WI’s to receive the WI Centenary Baton! We had the pleasure of welcoming Lady Darnley, Lord Lieutenant of Herefordshire to our centenary tea. You may be aware that 2015 is the centenary of the WI in England and Wales and a baton has been travelling around all the counties since Jan 1st, finishing its journey at the Albert Hall, London in June 2015.
About 30 members from Pembridge, Kington and Huntingdon joined Staunton members to attend the tea, together with WI adviser Avril Killick and Herefordshire Federation chairman Kathryn Bandfield. The weather was extremely co-operative and Bob Lord took some excellent photos of the baton arriving in the Triumph Herald from Weobley Group with Val Lewis, and the baton handover, plus some good group photos in Claire Burton's orchard to showcase our cider apples of Herefordshire. James from the Hereford Times also attended and there was a very nice write up and picture in the Hereford Times the following week. Many thanks to all who helped prepare and decorate the hall with bunting and flowers and provided extra food for the bring and share tea. See the picture gallery for loads more pictures of the afternoon. |
