Kath Watts of the Institute of Advance Motoring gave us a talk on driving with particular reference to the older motorist. We learnt that our rural roads have 25% of all crashes and 62% of all fatalities. We learnt about the importance of observation using all our senses while we are driving, that we should be constantly monitoring the mirror and the speedometer and that a huge proportion of people who are driving either do not have the correct prescription for their glasses or do not wear glasses even if they need them. We had a short quiz on the Highway Code and also learnt about the various courses that the Institute offers for less confident drivers and those who wish to have a driving assessment.
On Friday 17 October the Harvest supper was enjoyed by 51 villagers and their children. Rev Stephen Hollinghurst said grace and also entertained us with songs of the crooners, Nat King Cole, Matt Monroe etc. We gave him £30 donation which he gives to his church projects. Mrs Ann Kent Phillips and Jayne Sharp were thanked for preparing food, washing up and generally making the supper run smoothy. Shirley Percy our Treasurer said we made £465 for tickets, £84 on the raffle, expenses so far £114. Profit £434.26
