Kath Watts of the Institute of Advance Motoring gave us a talk on driving with particular reference to the older motorist. We learnt that our rural roads have 25% of all crashes and 62% of all fatalities. We learnt about the importance of observation using all our senses while we are driving, that we should be constantly monitoring the mirror and the speedometer and that a huge proportion of people who are driving either do not have the correct prescription for their glasses or do not wear glasses even if they need them. We had a short quiz on the Highway Code and also learnt about the various courses that the Institute offers for less confident drivers and those who wish to have a driving assessment.
